Speech contests are a Toastmasters tradition. Each year thousands of Toastmaster compete in the Humorous, Evaluation, Tall Tales, Table Topics and International speech contests. Competition begins with club contests and winners continue competing through the area, division and district levels. The International competition has two additional levels — semifinal and international.
On 2nd September our Club had its contest divided in two categories:
- Humorous speech
- Table topics
Two competitions but one unique winner: Vladimir Shakhov!
Vladimir won the humorous contest with the speech: ‘the Beauty of Misunderstanding’. The story of a group of friends having a holiday in Italy without speaking any single word of Italian. Language misunderstanding can lead to positive but also negative surprises.
Six members took part to the table topic competition. ‘What would you do if a passenger sitting behind you in the plane would hinder your seat from reclining?’ Difficult situation to handle but not for our fellow toastmasters. Various solutions to the problem have been vividly presented at the attention of the judges. All contesters were evaluated through a standard evaluation form. Vladimir made again his way at the top of the podium.
We cross fingers for Vladimir (humorous speech) and Lorenzo (table topics) participating to the Area Level Contest on September, 13th in Hessstrasse 89 (Strategy Center for Entrepreneurship, Fachhochschule München). We hope they will proceed to the next level despite competing with other clubs of the Area.
