Club Contest 10th March

Dear friend Toastmasters,

this year our club will organize a contest for International Speeches and Evaluators!

Speech contests are a Toastmasters tradition. Each year thousands of Toastmasters compete in the Humorous, Evaluation, Tall Tales, Table Topics and International speech contests. Competition begins with club contests and winners continue competing through the area, division and district levels. The International competition has two additional levels — semifinal and the World Championship of Public Speaking.

If you have already completed 6 speeches from the Competent Communicator manual you are entitled to participate to the contest!

We are still looking for contestants, judges and volunteers to prepare the evening and make it another success!

Please contact our President, VP Education or our Sergen of Arms in case you want to give your contribution or have more info.

Looking forward to see you on Tue 10th of March!

FEBRUARY 2015

Toastmasters.org Updates

Our redesigned website launched in December. Since then, the following updates have been implemented or are in progress:

  • Website FAQs offer tutorials to aid in navigating the site.
  • The Find a Club Advanced Search tool helps users locate clubs by country or district, and you can export the results to a spreadsheet. Find it in the Leadership Central section under Club Officer Tools and District Leaders Tools, which are available after logging in.
  • The Search function provides results for both products and content. You may choose to view either.
  • Enhancements to both the Search and Shop functions will be made throughout the first quarter of 2015.

Member feedback is a key reason these improvements are being made. We appreciate your comments and review them regularly. Please email us your feedback.

Prepare for the Club Officer Kit Mailing

In May and June, club presidents will receive seven copies of the Club LeadershipHandbook to distribute to incoming officers. These handbooks are part of the Club Officer Kit, which will be sent to your club mailing address on record. Clubs that choose to receive their handbooks in English will receive their kit in May, and clubs that choose another language will receive their kit in June. To ensure your materials arrive at the correct address and in the correct language, please complete the following steps by March 15:

  1. Log in to Club Central using your username and password.
  2. Select your club name and number and then click Update my club mailing address.
  3. Confirm or update your mailing address and language preference for officer manuals.
  4. If you enter changes, click Save at the bottom of the page. Otherwise, if no changes are needed, click Return to Conduct Club Business.

Submit Dues Renewals Next Month

Beginning February 27, club officers may submit renewals through Club Central. Look for a reminder email from World Headquarters on February 26.

Do you enjoy being a Toastmaster? Let prospective members know! The Talk Up Toastmastersmembership building program runs February 1 through March 31. Get a special ribbon to display on your club banner and a 10% discount on a club order when you add five new, reinstated or dual memberships to your roster. Start a conversation by wearing the “Ask Me About Toastmasters” button. February special: When ordering a button, use the promotional codeTALK to receive a 10% discount.

California Club Treasurers Only

Please file the 199N by May 15.

Thank You, Mid-year Training Participants

The training in January built on foundational sessions conducted last year at the Toastmasters International Convention. Your discussions, sharing of best practices and collaboration made the training valuable and tremendously successful.

Treasurer’s Report Reminder

Please email the Mid-year Audit, Narratives and Certification by February 15. Also, be sure to mail the signed report originals and supporting documentation to World Headquarters. Before completing the report, your district accounts must be reconciled through December 2014 and closed by World Headquarters. Remember to obtain the signatures of the district governor, treasurer and each audit committee member for the Monthly Narratives and Certification spreadsheets.

Prepare for Your April/May Conference

Planning is key to a successful district conference. As you develop your schedule, remember the following:

  • One of the most important aspects of planning the conference is selecting the best speakers, especially the keynote speaker. Consider these tips for finding the right speakers to motivate, inspire and educate attendees.
  • Prepare for the Annual Business Meeting by reviewing and amending the alignment of clubs, areas and divisions, if necessary.
  • Make sure your district leader elections run smoothly by informing voters about campaign procedures as soon as possible, and let them know who the candidates are. Also, remind attendees that district leader titles will change in July.
  • Invite your Chief Ambassador to share updates about the revitalized education program.

Review District Procedures

Many districts establish specific operating procedures to guide the district and provide consistency from year to year. District officers should regularly review procedures to ensure they are relevant and current. If your district changes its procedures, please follow the guidelines on page 10 in the District Leadership Handbook. Be sure to email District Services a copy of your new operating procedures and post them on your district website.

Is Your District On Track to Become Distinguished?

Make sure your district is on target with its goals in the District Recognition Program, and review your district’s performance frequently. The program year ends June 30.
