Our hiking trip on 12th/13th of October – please register soon
Dear members,
as I have already announced, our hiking trip had to be postponed. The new date is now Oct. 12th/13th!!
We will meet on Saturday, October 12th, 9:15 am, at Munich main station (Starnberger Flügelbahnhof), where we will take a train to Benediktbeuern – this will take less than an hour.
From Benediktbeuern we will hike up to the Tutzinger Hütte – this will take two to three hours. For more information about Tutzinger Hütte go to www.dav-tutzinger-huette.
At the Tutzinger Hütte we can have lunch or coffee. We can spend the afternoon just relaxing at or going for another hike, for example up to the Benediktenwand. In the evening (or the late afternoon) we will use the seminar room of the Tutzinger Hütte and have a toastmaster meeting.
On Sunday we can decide very spontaneously, whether we want to go for another hike or head back to Benediktbeuern (where trains to Munich leave every hour).
This trip is not going to be very expensive: single tickets to Benediktbeuern cost 12:50 Euro, and if we get some Bayerntickets, it might be even cheaper. Spending the night at the Tutzinger Hütte cost 11 Euros for member s of the Alpenverein and 22 Euros for non-members (and of course you need to buy dinner and breakfest at the Hütte).
I have already reserved 10 beds. We can still get some more beds, but that is not sure yet (and we would have tot tell the Hütte some time in advance).
So please let me know as soon as possible, if you would like to join!
P.s. And please let me know, whether you would like to give a speech at our TM Meeting at the Hütte.
Best regards
Steffi

How to conduct successful brainstorming sessions?
The brainstorming method can help to find creative solutions to a problem. It is often used as a form of group discussion to generate a list of ideas that might lead to a solution.
Basic Brainstorming principles are:
- Quantity, not quality counts.
- No idea is rejected.
- All ideas are listed and displayed where everyone can see them.
- Participants may build on one another’s ideas.
- Discussion and analysis are prohibited.

However, those rules are not always easy to follow. Especially #2 and #5 – to defer judgement and not reject ideas when someone suggests what you think is “stupid”.
Another pitfall is #1 – Many people stop generating ideas once they have found a seemingly viable solution, thus settling on the obvious and not finding the really breakthrough ideas.
Here is an example of brainstorming how it should be done. d.school brainstorming rules – YouTube
And here’s an example how NOT to brainstorm.
The “actors” in the videos are students of Stanford University’s “Design Thinking” school. Main points are shown as intertitles, so you should be able to get the picture even if you don’t understand everything that is spoken.
There are many other points to consider if you want a brainstorming session to be a success. For example, the setting in which it occurs, or the size of the group doing the brainstorming…
In this video, Journalist and author, Jonah Lehrer, even argues that brainstorming may not really work at all.
What are your experiences with brainstorming sessions? What contributed to the successful or not-so-successful sessions?
